Boys and boats

Tommy's back from mum's today!!! :) I missed the little boy sooo much!

The moment he saw me at the door he simply ran and jumped on me and hugged me and didn;t want to let go. :) I didn't really want to let go either... but having to work i had to. When we got home he was asleep already... :( Vic didn't even get to see him... and probably won't see him till tomorrow evening.

We went to see a church to rent here in Wimbledon and a couple of boats to do the mascaraed party, which By the Way seems now to be a whole different idea now. ;) More on it later.

The idea of the boat came from the notion would be tres-chick to do it in a cruise environment, and what better than The Queen Marry to do it in. Ideas jumping in my head!!!! LOADS of them!! So stay tuned to the blog and you will see how it goes... Date should be the 8th of June at the Queen Mary (anchored by the Waterloo Bridge).

Yayyyyyyyyyyy!!!

I am sooo excited!!! :)

Wait and see!!! :)

From the BBC News Website: When Muslims become Christians

Disclaimer: I know I know it is a long post... but read it!! It is worth it... :) and before you take any conclusions, I know I as a Christian and as a pastor they might call me "evil missionary" and I know I occasionally have a very strong opinion against extremists, being Muslims or not... OK mainly about Muslim extremists because they are the ones that explode you... but anyways... Believe me, I have some Muslim friends and they are very nice people, actually I admire some parts of their way of life, not the religion, but the way of life, and I know most Muslims (about 2/3 in the UK) are not crazy people that believe they will have 70 gorgeous virgins(poor virgins! What sin did they do to deserve that!?!) waiting for them in the afterlife if they kill themselves while killing as many "infidels" as possible... So don't explode me!!!

Church and mosque in Jerusalem

There's a widespread belief that the penalty for leaving Islam is death - hence, perhaps, the killing of a British teacher last week. But Shiraz Maher believes attitudes may be softening.

Ziya Meral's parents disowned him when he converted from Islam to Christianity.

"They said 'go away, you're not our son.' They told people I died in an accident rather than having the shame of their son leaving Islam."

Or listen to it on the BBC iPlayer

Born and raised in Turkey, he decided to convert to Christianity after moving to university. He knew telling his parents would be a difficult moment even though they're not particularly observant Muslims, and he planned to break the news to them gently.

In the end, events overtook him. Before heading back to Turkey for the holidays, Ziya briefly visited a Christian summer camp where he was filmed eating a bowl of spaghetti.

The first his parents heard of his conversion was when they saw Ziya on the national news being described as "an evil missionary" intent on "brainwashing" Turkish children.

His parents decided they would rather tell people that he was dead than acknowledge he was a Christian. And Ziya, who now lives in the UK, is not alone in this experience.

Sophia, which is not her real name, faced similar pressures when she decided to become a Christian.

Coming from a Pakistani background but living in east London, 28-year-old Sophia spoke about the extreme cultural pressures her family put her under.

SENTENCED TO DEATH
Hashem Aghajari
Hashem Aghajari, a history professor in Tehran (pictured), was sentenced to death for apostasy in Nov 2002
He had said Muslims should not follow clerics "like monkeys"
The sentence sparked off a month of student protests and was quashed by Iran's Supreme Court
Abdul Rahman began a new life in Italy after his trial for apostasy in Kabul collapsed

"They kept saying: 'The punishment is death, do you know the punishment is death?'"

In the end, Sophia ran away from home. Her mother tracked her down and turned up at her baptism.

"I got up to get baptised, that's when my mother got up, ran to the front and tried to pull me out of the water.

"My brother was really angry. He reacted and phoned me on my mobile and just said: 'I'm coming down to burn that church.'"

For Sophia and Ziya, a lot of the prejudice they faced seemed to be borne out of cultural ideas, which are particularly ingrained in the South Asian community relating to notions of family honour.

Student demos in Iran
Aghajari's death sentence sparked protests and a review

But it's too easy to say this is just a cultural problem. Dig a little deeper and you find that there is a theological argument which advocates the death penalty for apostates, which has serious implications for British society.

Last week, British teacher Daud Hassan Ali, 64, was shot dead in Somalia. His widow, Margaret Ali, said her husband was targeted by Islamists who "believe it is ok to kill any man who was born into Islam and left the faith".

Those renouncing their faith for atheism or agnosticism are viewed in a similar way to those who adopt another faith.

A poll conducted by the Policy Exchange last year suggested that over a third of young British Muslims believe that the death penalty should apply for apostasy.

Until recently, I would have shared that view, but since personally rejecting extremism myself, I've been re-examining the issues which I once regarded as conclusive.

Discretion

I was staggered to learn that the Quran does not say anything about punishing apostates and that its proponents use two hadiths instead to support their view. Hadiths are the recorded traditions and sayings of the Prophet which, in addition to the Quran, provide an additional source of Islamic law.

The hadiths which relate to apostasy are linguistically ambiguous and open to interpretation. Distinguished scholars told me that the hadiths actually speak about a death penalty for treason, not apostasy. And even then, they stressed the punishment is discretionary.

I believe the classical law of apostasy in Islam is wrong and based on a misunderstanding
Usama Hassan
Scientist and imam

Dr Hisham Hellyer is a Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies at University of Oxford, and has researched classical Islamic law.

He believes the death penalty punishment is no longer applicable and should be suspended under certain circumstances.

Usama Hassan, a Cambridge-educated scientist and an imam, goes further and says the classical scholars were wrong in how they interpreted the Quran. He is unequivocal in denouncing those who advocate the death penalty.

"I believe the classical law of apostasy in Islam is wrong and based on a misunderstanding of the original sources, because the Quran and Hadith don't actually talk about a death penalty for apostasy."

Last year Egypt's Grand Mufti, Ali Gomaa, unequivocally told the Washington Post that the death penalty for apostasy simply no longer applies. It provoked a flurry of debate in Egypt and the wider Middle East.

Traitor

The idea of killing apostates has become a resurgent theme in recent years, a fact closely-related to the increasing politicisation of Islam since 9/11.

It epitomises the "us and them" mentality felt by many Muslims between themselves and the West. And there's an uncomfortable conclusion to all this.

Muslim attitudes towards apostasy are a metaphor for the wider struggle taking place within Islam
Shiraz Maher

If there is a death penalty for treason, then who defines what treason is?

Earlier this year a group of men from Birmingham pleaded guilty to charges of conspiring to kidnap and behead a British Muslim solider because they regarded him as a traitor. Joining the British army was to them treason against Islam.

So while the debate surrounding one aspect of apostasy continues, it is simultaneously throwing up an entirely new series of challenges around other issues including what should be considered treason against Islam.

When Ziya talked about what happened to him, he was just finishing a report on the experiences of apostates, called No Place to Call Home. He had interviewed 28 apostates in six different countries as part of a year-long research project.

His report found that although the death penalty is rarely applied through the courts, apostates still face gross and wide-ranging human rights abuses at the hands of the state, radical groups and local communities."

It seems that Muslim attitudes towards apostasy are a metaphor for the wider struggle taking place within Islam, between those who argue for a progressive form of Islam and those who argue for more dogmatic interpretations.

Attitudes to apostasy may be a useful barometer for judging where it's headed.

Some comments from others and me commenting on them... :)

"A true Muslim would never ever change his/her religion. A Muslim who understands the true values of Islam would never disgrace it by converting. Islam is a religion of peace and harmony. It forbids its followers to even hurt an animal so the excessive propaganda against Islam needs to end now. The Holy Prophet S.A.W said; "Be kind to those who are on earth and He in the heavens will be kind to you"

My point is anyone abandoning Islam is destroying his life hereafter [life after death] and is his/her own enemy.
Lubna, Pakistan"

"The Holy Prophet S.A.W said; "Be kind to those who are on earth and He in the heavens will be kind to you"" Dude... Isn't that something that Jesus said?

Why is it that when anyone from any other religion says "I'm gonna kill your ass" faces risk of being imprisoned and when 1/3 of Muslims openly threaten anyone who has a different mindset they are free to walk around as if he/she had said nothing?

Isn't that abusing of the Religious Freedom Act? agreeing with James Rigby (a guy that commented on the article via BBC News Website) here who says:

"The "over one-third" of British Muslims who believe converts should be put to death are potentially guilty of inciting religious hatred. Will the police investigate? When are they going to be arrested?
James Rigby, Wickford, Essex"

Ok... I know the answer for that... The police doesn't have enough manpower to investigate or enough prison slots to arrest the ones who would be found guilty... and then if they did, Jihad would kill the UK's arse because all the troopers are out there... somewhere...

Are Muslims REALLY taking over the UK???? Seriously... look around..
think about it...

No pain, no gain!!!

And I am in a lot of pain!!!! So I wanna see a lot more gain!!! :)
I feel pain in muscles I didn't know I had!!!

Ok, let me explain the situation...
This week is my kick-start for my healthier life... (again)
So I woke up (or should I say was woken up and urged out of bed???) really early in the morning and went for a bike ride... Bike had a flat tire, so I decided to go for a jog instead... all great there... I jogged/walked for about 40 minutes nonstop... which was GREAT if you take in consideration the fact the I am at the moment one of the most sedentary persons I know. I didn't even work out a sweat properly... well... at least not until i was 4 blocks away from home anyways. But the most fantastic thing is that I didn't even use my asthma medicine!!!

It is awesome how a jog first thing in the morning wakes all your senses and alerts you so much! Ideas were flowing soooo easily!!!

Then I went to the bank with Cinthia and to get smooth paper for their wall chart thing... and it occurred to me that I REALLY needed a new desk... mine was dying! So I called mum asking if she didn't wanna present me with one. Well she did... so I had to carry the huge thing all the way back home in the wind... twice cuz I had to do 2 trips...

Then I had to put everything together...

As a result, and without being afraid of repeating myself, I now feel pain in muscles I didn't know I had. That made a bit worse by a cold I picked up from Giovanna makes life soooo happy.... :)

At least I now have LOADS of space to work... and me likes it! (And I have drawers!!! Simple things please simple minds.. do bad mine is so complicated! lol)

We're having trouble deciding the new times for our cell group meetings... I should just put my foot down at 5PM and that's it... Well let's see how it goes.

Got more to blog about... but am also hungry and since I am the one who has to cook for myself lately... well lets just say that I will be back later! :)

On a brighter note...

I finally convinced Giovanna to build a blog...

Somehow I think it would be good for her in many levels...

:)

What they say is true!

I was watching CSI a couple of minutes ago... an episode about a dead kid found in a box.
Cruelty... (well it seemed like that in the beginning anyways)...

But the first thing that came into my head was: Someone hurt my kiddo or anything like that i would not wait for the system to do justice...

I think I would most probably do justice myself... and boy... the culprit would suffer... SOOO MUCH!

zya!

One of those days...

Yup... Today Tommy woke up in one of those moods...
The terribly hyperactive ones I mean...
Starting normally with the "TV don" demand early in the morning.
He is also In an attention seek drive that would impress anyone...
And even almost got Giovanna arrested on the way to the park because he wanted to go up a set of ladders "because they were on his treasure map". Tantrum tantrum tantrum...
poor thing... can't blame him... Holidays are no fun when mummy and daddy are not in holidays too...
I wish the terrible 3s(the continuation of the terrible 2s) were over soon!!!!
aiai...

Forbidden substances

Jeez... I dunno... really dunno what to do about it...
It is great to have people round... but it can be soooo complicated...
Rules... rules... Why can't I follow rules????
Complicated indeed... I should have eaten the rest of that chicken...

Damn!

Funny things... :)

Last night Cinthia Babysat tommy so me and Vic could go out in a date.

We first went out to a place called the Gourmet Burger.

It is strange how we always end up going out to Central London when we have perfectly great places round here... I certainly LOVED the burgers there... :)

I suppose Texas embassy is Texas Embassy but hey... That was delicious!!!!

Next stop: Surprise, surprise!! The movies. :)

And that is the point i decide to think... We both spend most of our days in front of a computer monitor... Then, when we get home, to unwind we usually watch a movie or TV series in our huge TV/home cinema surround entertainment system while we eat... We don't go out much... and whe we finally do, we go to the movies!!! lol... OK... we don't go to the cinema so often and all... unless there is something that REALLY calls of to go.

The worst bit is... the best movies out this week, we had already watched... At home. Can;t complain tho... Pathology was GREAT!

But I have to say that the best bit (and yes... that includes the burger... ;)) was after we came back home... booya babes!!!!

I am not gonna get into details but i gotta say... I LOVE BEN & JERRY'S ICE CREAM!!! ;)

From the Holliwood Pastor (http://hollywoodpastor.com)

" Why Not?
Backhand Constantine
What I would do to hop in Doc's Delorean, go back in time and smack
Constantine and the rest of the Church leaders upside the head. What
were they thinking? Now of course I'm not wearing their sandals and I am
totally playing Monday quarterback, but people COME ON! How long will we
continue to use the same broken formula that has been past down for
hundreds of years. Jesus said, "The harvest is plentiful....," you know
the rest... The time is now for us to get out, and as the Church live
like Jesus. He went to the broken. He didn't invite them to meet him at
a specific building on a specific date at a specific time. HE WENT OUT
TO THE BROKEN!!! Then what did the broken do? THEY FOLLOWED HIM!!! You
know where the broken are. Lets go take care of business. Praying that
we will be bold today for the Lord.
